I wrote about some fitness goals that I had, and I wanted to do a check-in, to see if I’ve made any effort to start tackling those goals.

I still don’t really lift that often, so that’s one thing I’m going to try to work on – with the knowledge that I still prefer to do fun things (i.e., aerial/climbing) than lift, and if it comes down to what I’d rather do in the amount of free time that I have, well…you have the answer, ha. But in an effort to tackle some muscles I neglect, I did tackle this challenge for the month of February:

with the lazy clever realization that February only has 28 days in it, so those last two killer days…yeah. We didn’t do them. And I have to say, I don’t attack these kinds of challenges with enormous zeal or strictness. The aim is just to tackle areas that I don’t normally focus on, so if I get tired of squats, I’ll do the same number of some other glute/butt/leg-focused exercise, with the goal just being to target the same muscles. Or I’ll change it up and do some regular squats, and some second position squats. Same for ab exercises (my poor tailbone!) – I’ll sub in bicycles, dead bug, or something similar, because I also get bored easily. And I try to listen to my body; if something is starting to become painful, it’s time to switch it up. I do think that I’ve seen some progress as a result of the month’s challenge, though, and that was nice to see.

As far as some of the other things, I sent a V6! But it was definitely on the soft side. I’m working on V6 and V7 though, and even though I feel like I’ve hit a bit of a plateau for now, that’s okay. I’m trying to teach myself to be more patient, and also to be less self-conscious. It’s easy to feel like everyone is watching and judging when you climb, and I’m trying to pay less attention to that – so some self-improvement beyond the fitness realm, as well.

Finally, those pesky abs and being able to straight-arm invert…yeah. Still a work in progress. We climb 2-3 times a week, and I only go to aerial once a week these days, although I’m trying to strike a balance again. I’m feeling a bit tired these days, so I think I need to take a short break or ease up a little bit. We get up early and go to bed early, I feel like I live in sweats on the weekend, and I’m starting to itch for other activities (or just aiming to put on some makeup and be fancy-free some weekend, instead), so it might be nice to take a break. Last night we treated ourselves to a date night in the city – we went to Bar Liquorice, and had a fun, relaxed time. We need more of that. They had great cocktails (and were apparently voted the best bar in Maryland last year), fun food, and candy jars on the counter – all I need, man! I discovered that I have developed a liking for Good and Plenty.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
